Adianela Fonseca case: relatives won't authorize autopsy until judicial authorities rule
At issue is the way the autopsy of the deceased has been handled, and the family says they "will not authorize" the autopsy until there is an official pronouncement from the judicial authorities.
A family source told Inforpress that they had heard that the autopsy could be carried out today, but noted that neither the exact location nor the time had been communicated.
However, the same source even points to the possibility of the autopsy being carried out on the premises of a local funeral home, which they consider unacceptable given the seriousness of the case.
"Considering his former partner's relationship with the health system, as he is the current health delegate for the municipality of Porto Novo, the family formally requested, last Wednesday, to the Public Prosecutor's Office that the autopsy be carried out off the island, by an independent entity, guaranteeing total transparency and impartiality in the case," said the same source.
However, given the silence and lack of formal guarantees on the part of the authorities, the relatives announce that they will not authorize the autopsy to be carried out until there is an official statement from the Public Prosecutor's Office and the necessary conditions of transparency and impartiality are guaranteed.
If this does not happen, the relatives threaten, "as a form of peaceful and legitimate protest, to block the entrance to the funeral home until a clear and official answer is given".
"We demand respect for the family's pain, justice for Nela, and a process that ensures the truth is told with integrity and transparency," he concluded.
The 39-year-old woman, who currently lived in Abufadouro, was found inanimate by her own deputy in her home last Sunday, the 22nd of this month and was transported to the local hospital where she died, but the causes of death are so far unknown.
The woman left two minor children, the fruit of her relationship with the doctor, and an older child from another relationship.
